  1. About the Artist
  2. I am a lifelong resident of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. While always interested in art, I just became serious about fine art in the late 1990s and it was purely by accident. A friend wanted to take a watercolor class through our local parks and recreation department, but she didn’t want to go alone. So, I signed up for the class with her. Unfortunately, my friend didn’t enjoy the process at all, however, I was immediately addicted.

I have continued to study fine art through reading, watching videos, going to workshops and classes and making many friends in the art community. Several of the area artists that I have studied with are Jan Ledbetter, James Warwick Jones, Betty Anglin, Phyllis Greenway, Ray Hershberger, Susan Check, Joan Folsom, and Missy Berent. I have also studied with Serge Hollerback, Judy Betts, Arne Westerman, Elizabeth Yarsz-Ash, Polly Hammett and Carl Dalio.

    About my work

  3. Watercolor has been a first love because of the intense color and the spontaneous nature of the medium. Watercolors can be very delicate and transparent, however, they can also be exceptionally vibrant. My work tends toward the vibrant as I am usually motivated by color, often using subjective color based on my reaction to the subject or just colors that I want to use.
  4. I love to experiment with media and subject matter. Currently, I am working in a variety of water soluble media. I also enjoy collage, charcoal and pastel.
  5. Subject matter includes landscapes, figures, some florals and other plants, abstracts and animals. I am working on a series of whimsical animal paintings that I call “Kaleidoscopia. I like to think that the colors are what would be seen through a Kaleidoscope. According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, on of the definitions of Kaleidoscope is “anything that constantly changes”. It is my hope that my art will be constantly evolving.
